| If that happens, you'll see charters pop up in Ward 3 like weeds! |
where? As I look around Ward 3 and think - where could a charter lease space few locations come to mind |
| It will only happen if a charter takes over a failing DCPS. |
| Oh Honey, please. I could totally see AU's ed school deciding to start a charter. They'd find the space in Tenley or Spring Valley. And there are commercial spaces in along Connecticut Avenue - especially in the Van Ness area. Where was Wilson last year again? |
Wilson was at UDC. As a parent- why would you chose to send your child to a commercial space along CT as opposed to Deal? |
Not all of Ward 3 is zoned for Deal, as anyone who lives south of Massachusetts Avenue will be quick to tell you. |

Does the actual bill say that? The article implies that it would cover all charters--there's even a quote from a KIPP representative. |
There is no bill. I just don't see it happening unless it looks like what Kaya is proposing. I think the guy from Friendship hit the nail on the head. |
| This is a great idea. To work, though, it would be important not to grandfather sibling preferences. |
|
Why shouldn't siblings get prefernences?
I see pluses and minuses. On the one hand the sorry is that wealthy areas will just create their own private public schools. On the other it's frustrating when you can't get into a good charter in your neighgorhood. But how would this work when charters move? Or is it only for charters with permanent buildings? Does a long term lease from DCPS qualify as permanent? |
| Excuse me, worry, not sorry. |
