OB-GYN Recommendation

Hi- I am moving into the area and in need of an OB-GYN. I'm hoping to have another child soon, and my experience with my last OB was awful. He was unfeeling, not compassionate or caring, and when my child unexpectedly ended up in the NICU, he was as cold as ice when he saw me standing next her crib crying. I'm looking for someone who truly cares about his/her patients, listens well, and is (obviously) a competent doctor. If possible, I'd love if she/he delivered all her/his patients' babies, but my last OB did this, and it didn't matter compared to the rest. BTW, we'll be living in NW DC, and I don't know much about the hospitals in the area, so any insight would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I highly recommend Dr. Brendan Burke- he's in Chevy Chase- solo practitioner. Only problem is that he takes limited insurance plans. Thee office is great- small and personable and he's an excellent doctor. He delivers at Sibley.

Re: Dr. Burke-- I read on another post that he performs episiotomies as a matter of course. Is that true?

OP = you might do well searching the archives, or looking at the Expectant Moms index.

Also, ratemds.com has good ratings and reviews.

20:41 here. I can't comment about other's experiences but I did have an episiotomy ... i had been pushing for hours and tried massage/ oil etc. to no avail ... i was ready to get the baby out of me so I didn't say no let me keep pushing.

Oh, well that doesn't sound unreasonable at all. If he didn't do it right away, then it sounds like it's not his first course of action.

Does he deliver all his patients' babies or have other doctors on call?

I found Dr. Bradford Kleinman from ratemd.com and went to see him for a second opinon. I really like him. He's everything the reviews have said. He's affiliated w/ Holy Cross, off of Georgia Ave.

Drs Sanders and Schefell. NWDC. Only two female docs so you know who will deliver you. Excellent physicians in every way and I was very pleased with them. www.women-obgyn.com

Burke backs up with Foxhall OB but does really try to deliver all himself. One of the other OBs checked on me on the day of discharge. Because he is solo there were two occasions where my appointments were rescheduled because he was at a delivery. Otherwise his office runs really smoothly and they get you in and out efficiently. The nurses are really nice.
