Teacher appreciation luncheon today - I want to be able to be appreciated
Not excluded ... |
| Wow - you've gone this long without lunch meat? Impressive. My doc said lunch meat is safe and I ate it throughout two pregnancies. But that's just me. You need to do what you are comfortable with and it sounds like you're not comfortable with it, so maybe just wait until you give birth? |
| The fear about lunchmeat is listeria. If you trust where the meat came from, you could eat it. You could also heat your sandwich up in the microwave, as heat is known to kill any possible listeria. I'd still be leary though, not necessarily because of the lunch meat but because of the condiments. Mayonnaise and cheese left out in the teacher's lounge for awhile could be the deal breaker for me. |
| I am willing to drink a little alcohol during pregnancy but I steer clear of lunch meat the whole 9 months. Listeria is rare but the bad outcome can be REALLY bad (fetal death). |
| I've been eating lunch meat throughout. I would go for it. That last few cases of listeria came from fruits and veggies, and nobody suggests not eating those. So I think the whole lunch meat thing is silly and so does my dr. |
|
I steered clear of nitrates and nitrites the whole time so no, I wouldn't eat it unless I knew it was nitrate free.
You can heat up the lunch meat to kill the listeria. |
| No, I wouldn't. |
| I would just ask them if you can slap that meat in the microwave and get it steamy before you eat it. |
| Listeria isn't any less dangerous during the third tri than the first two, if that's what you're asking. Didn't they have something vegetarian? I hope so! |
| most lunch meat is filled with chemicals, antibiotics, hormones, and animal feces. look it up. i wouldn't eat it even if i wasn't pregnant. |
| Ask your doctor. I've been eating lunch meat throughout. |

| Does toasting a sub at Subway get the meat hot enough? I would hate to order it and then not be able to eat it. |
No, I don't think so. You can ask them to microwave the lunchmeat, though, or order something like the chicken that they microwave. |
| I've just been taking the meat out of the sandwich, nuking it for 30 seconds and putting it back in when it cools down. As long as steam is coming off the meat, I figure I'm in good shape. |
