I have a pair of jeans that are a size larger than I normally wear and have some stretch in them. I was thinking about having a maternity (elastic) band sewn into them. Is this a good idea, or is there something special about maternity jeans that leans in favor of buying them?
Can anyone recommend an alterations shop in Arlington that has done this for you? If not, what type of maternity jean is worth the money? I've heard Gap is good, but I'm open to all suggestions! |
I would keep your jeans for "fat jeans" after baby and get maternity jeans!!
I liked Gap, but if your butt gets big like mine, you may have to go up a size to accomodate! Good luck. |
Lots more than the belly changes during pregnancy. I agree--get the maternity jeans and save the larger jeans for postpartum. |
Ditto the PP. My whole body changed, not just my stomach - so sewing a band on any existing jeans wouldn't have really done the trick. Save those jeans for that "transitional" phase post pregnancy, before your regular clothes fit again. |
My maternity jeans were one of the few maternity clothing items that I felt like I got my money's worth, I wore them so much. I'd definitely buy a pair. Plus, alterations can be expensive, so you could end up spending as much as you would on a new pair of jeans anyway. |
Or you can buy bella bands that work with your regular pants. I haven't tried them yet, but my friend says she was able to squeeze a few more months out of her regular pants with bella bands. |
You could just wait and see, I used a hair elastic looped through the the button hole and around the button of my regualr jeans untill about 6 months so you never know how your body will grow. Also see if you have any friends who may have some clothes they can lend you, I had a close friend about my size who gave me all her maternity clothes. |
I used a rubber band to link the button and the loop hole when my favorite jeans became a little too snug (like the PP).
Then when I got huge I just gave in and bought maternity jeans on clearance at Target and Kohls. Getting your jeans altered with a belly band seems like a big hassle, potential error in measuring, and expensive. Save your time and money and just buy some maternity jeans. |
Motherhood maternity has this new thing called the "secret belly fit" or something like that. So comfortable and worth every penny. |
I used a Bella Band and a rubber band looped around the button hole and over the button to wear my regular jeans until about week 20 or 22. Then there was just no more stretch left in my regular jeans, and you expand in odd places & proportions that your regular jeans just don't fit. You will so want the stretchiness of those maternity jeans when your belly grows! If you want designer jeans that will make you feel chic and fancy, go to one of the high-end maternity places and try on designer maternity jeans to figure out what size/style works for you. Then go buy the same style/size on E-bay - I got some like-new Sevens for half of what the boutiques charge. Worth it to me b/c jeans are a wardrobe staple and it's nice to feel a little normal and fashionable. Gap maternity jeans are also great. What's nice about Gap and designer jeans is that they use their regular sizing for the maternity styles, so if you wear a 29 in Seven jeans or a 6 in Gap jeans, you'll probably wear the same size (though I did size up with the Seven jeans, since those tend to fit snugly). I had no patience for some of the so-called maternity jeans that only came in S, M, L. They just didn't fit right. Though, some of my friends liked the Old Navy maternity jeans, which are S-M-L sized, and reasonably priced. |
Hi the , You should get maternity jeans!! in my case I was trying to fit on my regular jeans and they only went up to my knees! I was size 3 before and now I'm huge. |
I lived in my Old Navy maternity jeans when I wasn't at work. |
