Im in alexandria zip 22309 and would like to sign my DS up for some kind of activity. I want something to help him be a little more outgoing and willing to leave my side to go play or do something with other kids. We have done swimming and plan to do it again but that is basically with me in the water. I was thinking of maybe karate or soccer where he can go run around with other kids. Has anyone done karate this young and can you recommend your place.

| Both of my boys loved "mingastics" (aka: gymnastics) at that age! |

DS just started karate a couple months before turning 4. He loves it. Soccer worked well for us at age 3.

| My 3.5 year old has been in dancing, soccer, swimming, and gymnastics. We go back and forth depending on what she likes. On session she liked soccer the next she hated it and wanted to try swimming. Last year she hated dance and this year is asking to go back. We go through Fairfax county parktakes. They offer sessions that last 8-10 weeks and the cost varies but its usually never over 85 bucks. |

We have done the same as PP. We use the Fairfax Co Rec Centers who publish their classes in a book (and online) called Parktakes. You do not have to be a member at the center to take the classes, registration for the summer starts May 15th and many classes fill up early.
We have done swimming (which she LOVES) and her class is now alone - I don't have to get in with her! They can start this at 3 (if you're comfortable with it) but do not have to be able to swim independently. Did soccer, but she didn't like it, although her school friend did really well. And we're currently in dance class which she does pretty well in. They have karate, gymnastics and other classes for this set. If you are a SAHM or are able to do weekday classes for any reason, there are more options available. We also did Zoom Around the Room which is in their soft play room at 2 1/2 but they take kids up to 5 and it's a great way to let out energy during those cold winter months! |

we did ballet, swimming, mommy and me yoga and tot soccer (coachjohnjenkins)
With a boy I might have gone for gymnastics or some kind of active music and movement class. |
