For those with half day kindergarten, I have a silly question. I understand you are supposed to pack a snack with your child each day.
Do you usually send it in a lunchbox? Or is that overkill? What do most kids use? And what about drinks and such? How does "snack time" work? first time kindergarten mom here! Thanks |
| I usually put it is a small brown paper sack. The teachers send it back for re-use, so I didn't go through very many last year. Fits a bag of crackers and a bag of fruit. They give out pre-ordered milk or cups of water at school, so I didn't send juice. I also have a small snack-sized thermos that I sometimes sent yogurt or cheese sticks in. |

OP here - just one more bump to see what other mothers have done for kindy snack time.
thanks! |
| I use a "lunch sack" - that's insulated so if I send a yogurt it stays cold. Comes back every day - I had started with the paper sack and then switched to the nylon bag thing. When I've been to visit the class I've noticed that the "snacks" and their carrying device range widely. Some kids bring in full sandwiches and thermos cups, some paper sacks and some tupperware type containers. Go with what you want. Since my sons school gives them a milk I tended to just throw in a bottle of water and once in a blue moon a juice box. I do think that the less work you create for the teachers the better so think in terms of them having to open/re-pack/etc. for multiple kids in the class. |
| We actually just toss the snack loose inside the backpack or put it in a side pocket of the pack. It's usually an apple or a pack of crackers or bag of pretzles, etc. - just something simple. We don't pack anthing to drink either -- there's water at school or she can take her water bottle out of her lunchbox if needed. I think it's too much to pack yet another lunch bag. |
