New principal at Westland

It has been announced that Mrs. Serino will be the new principal at Westland MS. She has been at Loiderman MS for the last several years. Do you have any experience with her? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Anyone have thoughts about how this is working out?

Nothing first hand but I've heard recently from a friend whose oldest started Westland this year that they are thrilled with the school so far. The DD had gone to Somerset, so their expectations/standards are pretty high. not sure that is a credit to the principal, but I was surprised since I used to hear Westland described as the weak link....

I know the principal because I shadowed her (at Loiderman) when I was in my internship program when studying to become an administrator. I was completely impressed that she knew the name of every single child in that building, how visible she was in the hallways, classrooms, and cafeteria throughout the day, and the general rapport she had with students. Just my two cents.

I have a Westland sixth grader and we REALLY like the new principal. She is very professional and competent and she doesn't have the MCPS disease of a scornful, condescending attitude towards parents. This is my fifth MCPS principal and the first one not to have it.

So great to hear! The principal at Pyle is just like that, too.

I think it was tough to follow Mr. Vogelman and there were some early stumbles, pretty minor on the whole. She seems to have caught her stride and seems very good and quite responsive.
