Potomac Pediatrics

We are considering switching. We loved the practice a few years ago, especially Kaplan, Glassman, and Schiebal but we've encountered a few doctors that we haven't liked. Has anyone seen Dr Moss? She seemed very inexperienced to us. We also seem to be getting very mixed and at times odd advice from the new doctors, very different than from the original doctors when we had the same illness for our older kids. We can request a certain doctor for yearly check ups but sick visits are the luck of the draw.

The billing has always been screwed up which is annoying. I've also had nurses or the person answering the phone try to not schedule a sick appointment and tell us over the phone that our infant probably just has a virus. She had an ear infection and the doctor apologized but if we had not pushed to get in she wouldn't have gotten the treatment she needed.

Has anyone else noticed a change in the practice?

I was only there for a couple of visits with my newborn, but was unhappy for the same reasons you're describing....billing issues, conflicting advice (shouldn't they have a stance on things like sunscreen or so?) and nurses who were rude over the phone and not knowing which doctor you may be getting. I was really disappointed because so many people on here love them and I got my other (great) doctor recommendations from here and was happy.

I switched to Dr. Hirsch www.hirschpediatrics.com and am happy there. He is a solo practitioner that used to work at Potomac Pediatrics. I found him randomly Online and had heard nothing about him because his practice is new. I normally don't go to doctors that I don't hear about but I decided to go with him and see how it was. At the time he didn't yet have an affiliation with any insurance carriers, but he does have several now. He is very responsive. I also have the option of E-Mailing him which is so great when you have a question that feels silly to call about. He seems to just like being a pediatrician. I met his nurse the other day too and she was really nice too.

Potomac Pediatrics has recently dropped several insurance carriers, including mine, though my insurance company doesn't have any record of them terminating. It's terribly inconvenient, and while I hope it won't turn out to be costly, it might. In any event, if they've really gone out-of-network for me, I'm not going to be able to stay with them. Any other recommendations in the Shady Grove area or nearby?

Wow! How timely - I was about to swtitch to this practice based on a recommendation from a friend (we have moved and now my old practice - which I loved btw - is too far.) But now I might reconsider...

any other good recs for the Shady Grove/Gaithersburg/Germantown area?

Thank you!

We just started going to Milestone Pediatrics in Germantown off 118 across from Montgomery College. The office staff and nurses are nice and the doctors are very knowledgeable. The main doctor, Dr. Gary Brecher, was voted one of the best doctors in the area by Family Magazine. I really like that they have separate rooms for healthy and sick children and the times we've been there, they've taken us back quickly. Before that, we had a really bad experience with Takai, Hoover, Hsu and Associates. We got many recommendations for them and almost everyone I know goes there, but that's one of the problems. They are way too busy and I never felt we got the time of day. Good luck in your search!
