| I'm 49. Last night I went out with women (friend of a friend) around my age and a bit older. I felt out of place somehow. I know I don't look 35 (I appear young/mid 40) but I feel like I am. I have very young children who make me feel younger; I hang out with the kid's friends' mom's who are young - at times I feel out of place with them too but not as much. The older I get the less people I want to interact with- maybe that is it. |
| I'm over fifty with very young kids, so the people I spend most of my time with are at most 40. And, yes I feel way younger than I am, especially when I consider how my mom and MIL functioned at my age compared with me. Also, I work in a profession where I know the ages of almost everyone I meet and I am shocked to see how many medical problems and how old people who are younger than me look. I think watching what I eat, getting exercise daily and being very active with my kids is the difference. I also color my hair and wear make up everyday, which helps. |
| 51 here. Look 41, feel 61 physically, mentally/emotionally about 35. |
| 56 here. Not sure if I look young or old, but I look put together. I feel young and carefree now that my kids are out of the house. I am having the time of my life! |
|
56 too. My face looks my age but I feel great and so much better than I did in my 40s because I've been able to work out consistently and eat well.
It's funny. There are things that I'm very confident about, so I don't notice how capable I am but there are other things that I still feel like a teenager about. So I know I'm a mature adult but sometimes I just feel like I don't fit in like an awkward teen. My advice to younger women: No matter how busy you are with your work and your little ones, find a way to exercise consistently, even if it's just for a few minutes a day. It makes a huge difference in your quality of life as you get older. |
Are you me?? Perfect description of me, too. |
Totally me too. Feeling older physically literally started when I turned 50. I was in great shape before that and now I feel creaky, can't see without multiple vision aids (contacts AND reading glasses) and I am not even 51 yet! |
| I'm 49. All my friends are about the same age, and many of us have teenage kids. We all look GREAT, if I may say so myself; fit and slender; most of us have had pretty succesful careers, and we like each other's company. It's nice to hang with women who are at the same point on life's journey, and my only complaint is I don't get to see them as often as I'd like. As our kids get older, we do get out a bit more though. |
| Feel 20+ years younger than I am, hang out with 20 somethings. Works for me. |

I am 48 dh is 35. He says I still look younger. I have a 4 yo so I do have some friends who are younger. But, I like to go dancing (not american clubbing) and although I do feel older than 35 physically I wouldn't say I feel my age physically either. I was better physically at 35 than 20 so that helped.
I do hang out with one friend who is 25 and gorgeous and she doesn't mind hanging out with me but to know I could be her mom is just mind-boggling. I just try not to think about it and keep my mouth shut (don't dwell on the aging). |
| I'm 56 and my best friend at work is 23. I've always felt young...never hope to have to feel old. |
| Older moms....did you get pregnant naturally/ ART? |
Rock on, lady! 35
|
yes twice at 37 and 41 |
|
Also got pregnant naturally twice, at 40 and 43. 47 now, DH is 6 years younger and I think that is a factor as well.
I probably look around 40 and I do not feel old. Many of DH's friends married women who were younger than them and I used to feel the age gap there more than anywhere. Not so much anymore. |
