what is the difference between spotting/bleeding due to miscarriage vs. your period? is there any? or can I assume this is my period?

I suppose technically there is a difference as one means an egg was fertilized and the other is a sloughing away of the lining because no egg was fertilized and implanted. But practically I don't think there is much difference...some late periods might actually be chemical pregnancies.

I'm not sure, but I'd be curious too. Does it mean your HCG levels are finally down to 0 when you get your period?

I think the difference is with your period, your HCG levels are necessarily <5. With a chemical, you could have bleeding/spotting, but your HCG levels may not be all the way down to <5. That's why they always check your HCG levels on day 3 bloodwork.

If it's a chemical, you will initially get a BFP, but it will quickly change to a BFN. When I had chemical pregnancy, blood tests came back negative only a week after taking a HPT and getting a BFP.

Your hcg levels are already so low with a chemical pregnancy that you don't have to worry about them. Many women find they are especially fertile then and get pregnant the very next cycle.

A chemical pregnancy means that they can verify the pregnancy via bloodwork, but the pregnancy ends before any fetus can be detected on an ultrasound (clinical pregnancy). Your HCG levels may be lower than with a viable pregnancy, but they should still be monitored to rule out an ectopic if they are not dropping.

I think OP may be asking if spotting and a period *feel* different. Having experienced bleeding with a chemical pregnancy and then in a subsequent cycle implantation bleeding followed two weeks later by a subchorionic hemorrhage in my current (successful) pregnancy, I will try to answer.

It is honestly hard for me to remember since I was such a bundle of emotions with each incident. With my chemical pregnancy, I started bleeding 13 dpt. I felt a little crampy like a period. However, the bleeding stopped and then returned 3 days later at which point it definitely felt like a period.

With the implantation bleeding I don't recall feeling period-like cramps. Same for the subchorionic hemorrhage bleeding.
