50 Shades of Gray

I have not read the book, nor do I know anything about it other than it is extremely popular. Should I download it on my kindle? Why or why not?

Ugh, I don't know. I did because I was curious but the writing's pretty bad. I didn't buy it, by the way...a friend sent it to me.

It is erotic/romance ya know.

The writing is so painfully bad. I am slogging through to get to the sex b/c a friend recommended it to me. So far it is a chore.

I bought it over the weekend and I'm not too far into the first one. It looks like a quick "beach" read. If you are really into books that will expand your mind, vocabulary or knowledge...pass on by.

For those who do enjoy the series, the author will be at the Bethesda Barnes and Nobel this Friday.

The B&N with the dogs? Sounds like a good pairing.

As my husband would say, "You don't watch porn for the storyline."

I didn't buy it - a friend forwarded me the pdfs. But even then it was not worth it. I read through the first 12 or 13 chapters and the writing was some of the worst I've seen. If you want to laugh at how awful the writing is and how ridiculous the main character and plotline are, all while being slightly titillated, then it's a fun read.

I have no idea how it got to be so popular. I mean, it's smut and stuff and I know people like that, but there's got to be so much better smut out there!

The writing was so poor I couldn't even finish the sample I'd downloaded.

Wow. Yes, the writing isn't ideal (I often shook my head and wanted to rewrite) but the story is great. I loved it and read all 3 in a week total.

There is a lot of good erotica out there. No need to limit yourself to the latest.

Apparently it's good enough to get some ho-hum sex lives jumpstarted from what I read on CNN a couple of days ago.

There's one part where the man pulls out the woman's tampon and as he fucks her she says "Oh jeez!"

Another part, after he impregnates her, he feels her stomach and the baby is moving after they have sex. He says, "Seems like she likes sex already!"

If you can make it through shit like that and crap writing to boot, have at it! I would personally be embarrassed to be seen reading it. I've read about people doing it for their bookclubs- why!? I'm all for reading trash but it better be good filthy trash.

Check it out at the library and save some dough!

I usually read during my kids swim lessons, but I wont be bringing this one out.

Since there seems to be some experts here, please recommend a better erotica novel that is not a romance.
