Question about ovulation

Hi,

If the OPK shows a LH surge and the fertility monitor also changes from low to high and then "peak" fertility, does it mean you are ovulating for sure?

Or is it possible to have an LH surge but not really "release" of an egg?

I am asking that because past november my OB requested a test to check my progesterone level when I was taking only metaformim - I had to take the test on the 21st day of my period and according to him the level was too low.

The following month I had to do the same test, but that time after also taking clomid - and the levels were normal.

I wasn't using OPK or fertility monitor at the time so I trusted the results.

But after reading "Taking Charge of your Fertility", I have some doubts.... The author mention that the progesterone test is usually ordered to be taken on the 21st day because doctors assumes (mostly) the ovulation day is ocurring on the 14th day; but if a woman has a late ovulation, this test should be take later in the cycle as well (around 7 days after predicted ovulation).

My OPK and fertility monitor show my ovulation is around day 16 - 17 in my cycle (without clomid), but I am not really sure if I am REALLY ovulating.

So, is it possible to a person not ovulate after the LH surge?

TIA

Are you temping? My understanding is that a temperature shift is the only way to confirm O.

I was concerned w/ exctly the same thing so I started temping this month and was relieved to have O dedected. Fertility Friend website has great charting software.

Sending you Babydust!

It is possible that your body can gear up for ovulation and then it doesn't happen. I was charting the month after I had a miscarriage. Everything lined up as normal and I got a + opk, but my temp never shifted. My period was also a week and a half late that month, judging from the timing of ovulation signs. I got the temp shift the next month and conceived.

Good luck to you!
