Poll Regarding Induction -- How Long After Being Induced Was Your Baby Born?

Anonymous
I know each woman is different, each pregnancy is different, and each baby is different, but I'm just curious about how long an induced labor usually lasts.

I am being induced tonight, at 40 weeks 5 days, because of low amniotic fluid. I'm VERY comfortable with being induced tonight, eager, and ready. I'm just wondering about some anecdotal evidence on how long it might be before the little one makes her appearance. I'm going to the hospital at six p.m. this evening and hoping to have a baby by dinnertime tomorrow (but sure would love to hear that she could come much sooner).

A couple of hours--but my water had already broken, and my first labor was also quick.

This is how the standard induction goes as far as I could tell from my far-from-perfect experience. You check in the hospital in the evening and they apply a cervix softener at bedtime. (This may start contractions for some.) In the early morning, they start pitocin, and may break your water a bit later. Around 3 pm-ish, most induced babies are born. Thats what the nurse told me anyway. I was watching the clock for thinking, I just have to make it until 3.

14 hours after pitocin was first started. My water had broken spontaneously at term, but I had no "natural" labor activity. Pushed for 2 hours, then c-section for failure to descend (head was malpositioned and just wouldn't go past the pelvic bone).

Good luck to you. Hope it goes well.

I was 5 cm dilated upon admiission at 6 am. I too had low amniotic fluid so I was scheduled to be induced as soon as I change into the gown - DD born at 12 noon!

Good luck and congrats.

I know OP is at the hospital, but for others to compare. My water broke at 2am, given pitocin after getting settled in the hospital a few hours later, and DD wasn't born for 29.5 hours later (730am next morning).

A friend of mine was induced twice, a week apart and still never went into labor, or dialated or anything. She wound up having a c-section. I was not aware that you could NOT go into labor after being induced, but I guess it can happen.

36 hours after the introduction of the Cervadil:

11pm - Cervadil
11pm-9am - sleeping
11am - Pitocin began
11am - 11pm - contractions every 2 minutes on average, no epidural, intermittent fetal monitoring, moved around (walking, rocking, etc.)
11pm - epidural and continuation of Pitocin and contractions every 2 minutes
11pm - 9am - resting
9am - 11am pushing and delivery of db

I had a midwife, which probably contributed to my being "allowed" to labor for a relatively extended period without be sent for a C-section.

Cervadil started at 1:00 am.
Water broke at 7:30 am.
One dose of pitocin at 9ish am.
Baby born at 1:41 pm, but had to wait 45 minutes for doctor to arrive before pushing.
