So what do you do for fun if you WOH FT and have a couple of kids?

I'd like to go out some Saturday night and hear some jazz or other music we can talk over. I love our friends, but I'm kinda sick of trading dinners between houses. Our kids are 8 and 10. Any ideas?

I know some people might think it's lame, but even just going to a coffee shop and sitting with a drink is a treat these days (kids are 2 and 4). Or, going to the big Whole Foods in Fair Lakes and slowly browsing...

Oh, do you mean stuff to do WITH your kids or without?

Thanks, I did mean without....

10:54 here. Gotcha. Well, we do the coffee shop and Whole Foods without the kids...it's just nice and relaxing to sit there and not feel hurried or worried about watching the kids.

Sounds like a plan! Why don't you get a sitter and head on out? Am I missing something?

we're coming into outdoor festival season. Watch the papers and the internet for jazz festivals, shows at Wolftrap, friday night live in herndon, county fairs, wine festivals, etc. Tons to do, with kids and without.

DH and I try to take a day off work every now and then and spend it together. We've got three kids, two with special needs and gettign a babysitter is cost prohibitive.

We go out to dinner, to the movies, and to the theater, with and without friends. Is this so unusual? I'd like us to do more active things, like tennis and hiking, although we'll probably do those with the kids. Also travel at least once a year together.

Thanks PP, that's the type of thing I'm looking for!

OP, there are also concerts at Yards Park, which is a great. I highly recommend. If you're looking for other stuff to do without kids, there are jazz brunches at a few different museums. Or you could just do the usual, get a babysitter, go out to dinner with your DH, have a few drinks, and relax. And if you're like me and my DH, we run a few errands first to get them out of the way and make the most use of our non-babysitter time.
