Any suggestions for a french restaurant, preferably in DC (and/or close to a metro stop)
Alternately, any on this list you suggest trying or staying away from? Bistro Bis -Capitol Hill Bistrot Lepic & Wine Bar- Georgetown Cafe Bonaparte -Georgetown Cafe Du Parc Circle Bistro La Bergerie Lavandou Restaurant--Cleveland Park Les Halles Le Mistral - McLean Napoleon Bistro-Adams Morgan Petits Plats -Woodley Park Thanks! |

Montmartre -- small, charming, delicious, and only about two blocks from the Eastern Market metro.
I've heard that Bistro Bis has really gone downhill the last couple of years, but I don't know from personal experience. Bistro du Coin in Dupont is good for casual and authentic bistro fare. |
| PP here -- I don't think Les Halles is really all that authentically French. |
| Les Halles has a great steak frites and onglet (cut of meat) and seems authentically French. I also like Bistro Lepic a lot, but not Bistrot Du Coin. Lavandou is also good. |
| bistro lepic, georgetown. |
| Bistro Lepic |
| Not sure if still there, but La Paradou is great. |
| Le Mistral is quite good if you are going to McLean, but not near a metro. Petite Plats is a nice atmosphere but rate the food only as so so. I like Bistrot Lepic. |
|
Bistro Bis is still plenty good.
Les Halles isn't very good - kinda big and touristy, if I recall correctly. La Bergerie is very authentic (and quite good), but very old fashioned. |
| I like La Chat Noir as well (walking distance from the Tenley metro) |

OP here:
Thanks for the suggestions so far, please keep them coming!

| I've only eaten once at Lavandou, but I thought the food was mediocre. General opinion around Cleveland Park (at least on the listserv) seems to be that the place has gone downhill. |

I highly recommend Central
http://www.centralmichelrichard.com/ Cafe du Parc is nice, but more for breakfast or lunch |
| Le Paradou is also fantastic, but more of a special occasion place. |
| The grande dame of french restaurants, not in DC, but in VA suburbs (Great Falls 30 mins from downtown DC and a beautiful drive) L'Auberge Chez Francois. Food is excellent and the atmosphere is very charming. More special occasion though. |
