Bethesda Camps

Anonymous
We are moving to the downtown Bethesda area this summer. Our kids (ages 6 and 9) will be attending Bethesda Elementary School. We are currently researching options for summer activities so they can begin to meet new friends and ease their transition to a new place. Currently considering Headfirst, Sidwell, Stoneridge, and the Montgomery County camps....would love feedback on these camps or suggestions for others in the local area. Also, does the Bethesda Library have any type of summer programming (summer reading program, but also additional fun classes or mini-camps)?

Thanks!

Boys or girls? Sports or arts or general day camp or what All of those camps will draw kids from BE. What are tour kids interests and we can better recommend camps. Also, I do not think the Bethesda library offers a summer reading program - the Little Falls library (another Mont County library albeit smaller) cut the summer reading program last summer - too bad.

OP here. Thanks for your response.

My son is nine.....loves soccer, legos, science, and acting. My daughter is six...arts and crafts, yoga, legos, and reading. I was initially just looking for a general day camp for both of them to attend together, but your question has me now thinking perhaps I should investigate more theme specific camps. Is that more the norm in the area? Any suggestions would be great!

Bummer, to hear about the summer reading program cuts.

My kids (2 boys 7 and 8) go to BE. Most of the kids do a lot of different camps. We are doing KOA sports camp for 2 weeks, TIC, basketball camp and art camp. If he likes acting, there is Imagination Stage, soccer, I think they have a 1 week camp at MSI. People like Sidwell Friends camp, you can join Bethesda pool (county pool). There are a lot of options, which makes it hard to figure out what to do. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the helpful reply! I have been continuing to do research and you are certainly right....almost too many choices Thanks for the tip about Imagination Stage. Off to investigate that right now.

My son loves Sidwell's soccer camp - at the Bethesda location it is run by Bethesda Soccer Club - great coaches. Sessions through 8/10. My daughter loves the Handwork Day Camp - all sorts of handcrafts (sewing, knitting, etc.)... we usually have to go to the DC Campus for that but this summer they are offering 2 sessions on the Bethesda Campus (7/30 and 8/6). Good luck with the move!
