Where can I buy dressers?

Trying to stay at $300 per dresser but need good quality. Similar taste to Restoration Hardware but cheaper! any ideas?
I can't find nice dressers anywhere! I can't even find expensive ones that fit my taste (black, distressed, good quality...)

IKEA has some nice real wood dressers (Hemnes style)...for less than $300.

There's a few hardwood places around (where you can stain your own...), and they might have something affordable.

$300 is low, raise it and you have more choices..lol

Sometimes IKEA drawers bottom out, unless things have changed.

I highly recommend the IKEA Hackers site - I think the dressers fall under the storage category

I love IKEA dressers - I've had them since I was 13, so almost 20 years now. I have only gone through a couple of them in 20 years. The ones in our current room, we've had for 8 years.

If none of these IKEA Hacks works for you to jazz their stuff up a little, you might also try to buy used furniture and paint it. You can just borrow ideas and use different furniture.

I would never recommend IKEA, we did it and the dresser broke down in no time. the drawers were too shallow, and the bottom came off multiple times. the back of the dresser came off and my hisband had to fix it, and even the side rails (we had to buy them new and replace them). we finally took it to the damp after about 8 years. never again. I went to Craigslist and after daily looking for a while, in a three month span I bought 4 dresser. the most expensive was $250 (almost 50 years old and works perfectly), the others were $40, $80 and $100. they are all real wood, all have dovetail joints, wood rails and deep drawers that hold tons of stuff. I am very happy. if you look in Craigslist in the new furniture and in the antique section if you can find anything, any style, you just need to be patient.

I think the quality of the dressers at IKEA is hit and miss. I've never bought their cheapest line and have always been happy. I had one dresser (the predecessor to the Malm line) that did start to break down a little (the back piece kept falling off), but it was because it got moved 4 times over as many years. The drawers were fine. We currently have two Leksvik (?) dressers that have held up beautifully - and I have NEVER had a problem with IKEA dressers with shallow drawers. As a matter of fact, I'm always disappointed at the depth of the dresser drawers at higher end stores after having owned the IKEA dressers I have. I have always had tons of storage space.

You can get traditional dressers at antique stores. I got a low dresser with mirror at an antique mall in Westminster, MD. It was $125. It is well made, stained dark oak and it is nice, not not as nice as the $600 antique dressers I've seen elsewhere. But it is nice. Of course that was 5 years ago, but you can always get good buys here and there. The further out you go, the better prices. There is also an antique store/used furniture store in Frederick called "Carroll Creek", which has nice stuff at reasonable prices.
