We are headed to Greece in the fall and have seen some comparable rates for US Air, Continental, and Air France. Has anyone flown any of these overseas and were they toddler friendly? I have heard that European airlines are more comfortable and more toddler friendly (whatever that means), but wanted to hear other opinions before deciding. |
I don't know about how toddler-friendly they are, but Air France has better food! |
International flights are generally nicer than domestic flights, even with a domestic carrier. |
In my experience, European airlines are much more child-friendly these days. |
With the notable exception of LIAT airlines in the Caribbean (aka Leave Island Any Time or Luggage In Any Terminal), in my experience international carriers are always better than US. |
Avoid Continental. I have had nothing but trouble with them on international flights with kids/babies even though they're fine on domestic.
I would double check the rules/allowances for carseats on the European carriers if you plan to bring one onboard. The US carriers must allow any that are FAA approved (which most are) but the Europeans don't. They might still allow it but it doesn't hurt to check. |
I'd say European carriers. The flight attendants seem more professional. |
PP again,
US Air just started charging extra for EVERYTHING. I was on a flight with them last week and had to pay to check bags and to get a glass of water. So everyone crams all their luggage into huge carryon and tries to shove them into the overhead. Stupid, stupid rule! |
Maybe not the thing that should drive your decision but it's always in the back of my mind:
The US has pissed off a lot of people all over the world and I personally would feel safer from terrorists on Air France. I know, I know -- it's more dangerous driving to the airport than flying but for me it's still a factor. |
In European airlines the flight attendents don't collect the trash with a plastic bag..... |
If no elite status (which wasn't mentioned so I'll assume your family has none)- I'd pick cheapest but only that which was best schedule and connection time.. then european as PP stated- hopefully less of an attack target.. as for in flight personnel- well, I have had so many anti american especially with air france- but - that's not everyone and especially for flights originating or ending in the US.. good luck and have fun! |
We just flew to Greece with a toddler. Delta, it was fine. I don't think any one is really toddler friendly, all airlines expect the child to remain seated for safety. I would highly recommend getting the bulk head seats, which you can only do at the boarding desk. It is first come first serve. If you fly out of JFK, there are little play grounds thru out the airport. Helps. have a nice trip |
