Tea @ the Willard?

Anonymous
My mom is visiting in a few weeks. I was trying to plan things for us to do. She will be here the week after Mother's Day and will be here for my birthday(hasn't happened in almost 20 years!!). Has anyone experienced Tea @ The Willard? The cost is minimal but want to make sure we are not wasting her few days here. Is it worth the $$? Thanks!!

WYSIWYG. If you and your mother enjoy afternoon tea, then you will enjoy tea at the Willard. It's a very nice experience.

I dont recall that the cost is much cheaper than the other optiosn (Mayflower & Jefferson are my favorites), but do remember that "Peacock Ally" where the tea is served is basically the hallway going to the dining rooms. They set you up in very nice chairs and a side table, so it's comfortable and fine, but I didnt like being in a hallway

Check out the other options too

We did it for a a baby shower. It was lovely..with a harp in the background..delicious food.. It is the only time I have done a fancy tea so I don't have much to compare it with but we enjoyed it.

The hallway thing is true though -- I use the bathrooms at the Willard all the time when I'm out-and-about, and I'm always walking through all the ladies having tea.

Try the Mayflower.

Thanks all. I am not loving the thought of the hallway! Thanks for the tip. Will definitely check out the Mayflower & Jefferson.

The Jefferson is lovely.

A little off topic, but would it be weird to take my MIL to tea and make my husband come with us? Meaning, can a dude go to tea?

I much prefer tea at the Ritz.

PP here - Phew! Much less awkward this way.

Also, I've been to the Ritz in Tysons for tea. It was lovely.
