| Just realized I have a pack of chicken breast tenders in the fridge, sell by date is 4/22, so they're 3 days past. WWYD? |
| open and sniff. if you don't barf, eat it. |
|
i say toss, but my husband would say cook and eat
i grew up in a house where my mother lived in fear of botchulism... now people pay $$$$ to have it injected into their faces.... go figure |
| I'd be very cautious, although some refrigerators are cold enough (especially if you don't open the door often) to keep it safe. If the chicken feels at all "slick" or has an odor, toss! |
| I would bet it's not good. Open and smell. |
| No way! Toss them. I just saw chicken with a 4/27 sell date that had an extra $2 off. |
|
I'd toss.
My husband would eat. |
| When in doubt throw it out. Do not risk your health to save a few bucks. |
| If it is vacuum packed, it should be okay. If not, I would toss. |

The "sell by" date doesn't mean it has to be cooked and eaten by that date - that wouldn't make any practical sense. There is leeway built into the sell by dates.
When I was a kid, I remember learning that milk was supposed to be fresh for at least a week after the sell by date. I remember my mom taking it back to the store for a replacement one time when it didn't last the whole week. You can read about it here: http://homecooking.about.com/library/weekly/aa102102b.htm |
