Looking for a really good GP w/ personalized care; would pay extra...

Looking for names of internists/family doctors/GPs who are great. In close-in MoCo or DC. I have had so many bad experiences feeling like a number/cog in the machine, and my health is suffering because I dread engaging with the health care system at this point. I could afford to pay for one of those annual-fee-for-supposedly-great-service practices, if there are great ones out there. I have an HMO but would switch at open season to something else if it enabled me to see a doctor in a better practice. I want personalized care, someone who takes their time, someone who has the (my) big picture in mind. I know: the mythical Norman Rockwell doctor. Does this exist? Thanks.

And sorry if that is incoherent at all-am typing on tiny screen in waiting room (in exasperation).

I really like Sue Kanter in Bethesda. She doesn't take any insurance, but I submit for reimbursement and get some money back. She really takes time to listen, and often has same-day appointments if you need one. I also like that she's affiliated with Suburban, and is located in a complex with a lab, radiology office, etc. So if you need more stuff done, you don't have to run all over the place to get blood drawn and x-rays taken.

My husband uses a different internist here in DC -- Robert Enelow -- who he really likes. Dr. Enelow also does not take insurance.

I just started seeing someone at OneMedical. I can't give you a full opinion on the practice yet, but so far so good - the doctor was with me for nearly an hour for my physical, we talked about all the things I wanted to, and I got my lab results quickly. It's semi-boutique - they take many insurance plans, including my HMO, but charge $200/year to cover the stuff insurance won't pay (like longer appointments and email communications). There's an office at Metro Center and another at Farragut. I had pretty much given up on finding an internist downtown who takes my insurance and is accepting new patients, so to have these people pop up right by my office was a relief. We will see if their promised model of care pans out...

Look into docs on the Privia Health network.

I do not like Sue Kantor

Assil Saleh at Foxhall Internists. Very personable, spends lots of time and is very astute. You do pay for it though.

Look for "concierge doctors" -- you'll pay $500-$3000 a year PER family member -- but you'll get the "personal" service.

Dr. Schubert at Foxhall Internists. Does not take insurance, so you'll probably pay a chunk out of pocket.
