Very dry and flaky scalp, but oily hair, using kersatase but not helping, please recommend shampoo/cond.
Thanks! |

I know it's going to sound weird, but have you considered Wen? I used to have a somewhat dry but not super flaky scalp and was using just way too much product in my hair to compensate for the brittle nature and if I went more than 24 hrs in between washes, it got insanely oily and greasy feeling. I switched to Wen a while back and find that my hair is softer, feels thicker, retains moisture better but isn't oily feeling.
Good luck! I know how frustrating it can be while looking for the right hair product. |
| Try an apple cider vinegar rinse (and really scrub your scalp with it). Use it between your shampoo and conditioner. Works wonders on pretty much every hair type. Use the raw, organic kind, like Bragg's. |
| Sounds like you have seborhea and should use a medicated shampoo like Selsun or Tgel. |
| Head and Shoulders |
| Vinegar poster here. Please try the vinegar before a dandruff shampoo, it really will work better than those products. |
+1 Except the only ones that work for my dandruff/oil hair are the ones with salicylic acid in them, like T-Sal by Neutrogena (CVS makes a knock off) Demarest Shampoo, or Selsun Blue - Naturals |
| Try Eufora Urgent Repair ... that stuff is amazing. I get them at Salon Khouri in Fairfax. They also have a conditioning treatment using the products and your scalp will feel great and be flake free afterwards. |
| tea tree oil based? |
Agree. I have been using the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special shampoo and conditioner for awhile and really like it. My scalp is flakey if I use anything else and my hair is generally oily. My hair has been really dry lately though, so I've switched to the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Lavender Mint (moisturizing) shampoo and conditioner and my hair is oh so soft, and my scalp is clear of flakes .

Look for a product that has Pyrithione Zinc and not salicylic acid. Although Pyrithione Zinc is designed for dandruff treatment, it is great for plain dry scalp even without dandruff (which is what I have). I've used both of these:
- Goldwell Dual Senses Scalp Regulation Anti-Dandruff Shampoo http://www.beautyencounter.com/buy/goldwell-dual-senses-scalp-regulation-anti-dandruff-shampoo/4021609024675/154489?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=na&utm_campaign=froogle&utm_content=4021609024675 - DHS Zinc Shampoo http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=14406&catid=183491&aid=337953&aparam=dhs_zinc_shampoo_pyrithi&CAWELAID=1051419574 |
| Your hair will likely be less oily if you can control the dryness of your scalp (your head generates more oil in response to the dryness), so I would try to combat that first and see if it helps. |
