Take out charging for packing

Anonymous
is this a new trend or I'm missing something?

Just got some to go from my fav place and what was my surprise when I noticed they charged me for the packing... WTH? I used to tip them even when taking out because I like the place and the folks a lot... I guess they're not getting tips from take out anymore.

Bummer!

How much were you charged?

I tip too because I figure they deserve something for packing, but if they charged me I'd stop doing it. Maybe not many people did it? It's funny to me because I picked up at a chinese restaurant and they crossed out the tip spot on the credit card slip before I could put anything down, but a pizza place seems to be soliciting for tips when I pick up.

$5 - almost 20% of my order total.

WHOA. I would not patronize this business anymore. That's ridiculous! 20% is fine for a tip when you're served a meal, but I wouldn't give more than 5-10% for packing.

Show this place what you think of this policy with your checkbook.

I guess they want to cut back on their take-out business. I can understand that the materials cost money, but so do the resources to serve and wash dishes for those who eat in. What place was this, OP?

Yeah, I would pretty much object to this, loudly and assertively.
