Public school teachers, has this happened to you?

Anonymous
I was listening to a radio show recently where a couple of public school teachers were saying how they get many kids from private schools or home school who are poorly prepared and often way behind. They were really trying to encourage more government oversight in these academic scenarios. But have many public school teachers experienced this?

No, this never happened to me when I was a public school teacher (in a high-quality, affluent public school).

We get some kids from charter and parochial schools who are poorly prepared, way behind and often also badly behaved. Usually, these kids have been asked to leave their previous schools, so they don't necessarily represent the whole community. I can also think of some students who left private schools for various reasons. A few have been behind, but in each case, I'd chalk it up to the student's personal academic challenges.

I am a public school teacher and I would agree with this. Most of the students who come from private schools in the area were either kicked out or left for one reason or another. It is usually not the school that is at fault, but more the students' personal or academic issues.
