Are honey nut cheerios safe for one year old?

I gave my one year old Honey Nut Cheerios not thinking about the fact that it says "Nut" in the title. LOL!! Later, I realized it and looked at the ingredients. It says it contains "natural almond flavor" and it says "contains almonds". Did I just unknowingly break the rule about not giving nuts to a child before age 2? She did not have a reaction, so can I assume she is OK with nuts??

yes, it is fine. don't worry.

There is no longer a rule about not introducing nuts until 2. So please do, sooner than later. Talk to your pediatrician.

You are very misinformed about nut rules. Unless you have nut allergies in your family to nuts or other severe food allergies, then you can give your child nuts at any age. Holding off on foods increases the risk of developing allergies. Kids should be introduced to all foods early (again unless the family has a history of food allergies).

No one knows what a child is allergic to until the child consumes it, touches it, etc. your child will be fine.

I was more worried about the "honey" since infants under 1 aren't supposed to get honey, but I think they are fine. Both in terms of nuts and honey ...

I fed my son Honey Nut Cheerios forever. He's got peanut and tree nut allergies but never reacted to the cereal. I feel like it must be pretty low on the allergen scale.

Get plain ones. Too much sugar.

Please note that kids can be allergic to some nuts but not others. So even if your kid is not allergic to almonds, that means nothing as to many other nutd. But you should talk to your ped about your kid's personal risk factors and get her views on when to introduce nuts. Some peds will suggest you wait if certain risk factors are present.

Sugar bomb. That cereal has about the most high fructose corn syrup of any on the market.

Why give a kid that much sugar? One year olds don't know any better - give them plain cheerios!
