Looking for a cool kid friendly mountain cabin to rent for the weekend within 2 hrs of DC. Prefer something with 2 bedrooms. Thinking Virginia. Anyone have ny good ideas?

We stayed here once and it was nice. Not really a *mountain* cabin though. If we want to be up high we stay in Shenandoah NP-- they have a couple different kinds of cabins they rent.

We stayed here with another couple last weekend and had a blast. Hiked old Rag Mountain on Friday and then went to several wineries Saturday and then had dinner at the Inn at Little Washington (expensive but worth every penny). Can't say enough good things about this place. I am pretty picky and this place was really special. First class all the way. The mountain views are really something. We just stayed at Shenandoah River State Park for about $105/night for 2BR - we booked online with state of VA. Google it. very new cabins with wrap around covered deck. good appliances though no dishwasher or W/D.

Is Rose River Farm child-friendly? The cabins look great.

Rose River Farm is very child friendly. I am not the previous poster but we stayed there in the fall with our two kids and they had a great time. The kids fished in the pond and we went on a great hike at White Oak Canyon. Incredible waterfalls! Only about 5 mile ride to the trail head. Can't say enough good things about this place. The cabins are really beautiful.

We've had fun several times at this place. Feeding the goats and chickens (and collecting their eggs) is way fun and hiking in the state forest is great. And it's an easy drive from DC.

Any of the rose river farm patrons have problems with bugs? we stayed there last october and there were TONS of grasshoppers, crickets getting into the cabins. I loved the cabins, but can't do the bugs underfoot.

We have also stayed at lost river modern in WV and love it -- http://lostrivermodern.com/ great kid friendly location.

Never had any bug issues at Rose River Farm. Don't even see how that would be possible as the cabins only have one door to get in and it has a screen door and the windows had screens too. Our Family has now stayed there three times, in October, January and most recently two weeks ago. Not a single bug in the cabin.
