Scratching Objects?

Anonymous
If a child scratches objects frequently, such as books, paper, puzzle pieces, and lids to play-dough containers, is this indicative of ASD or another disorder? Also, how does a short attention span factor into ASD (or does it)?

TIA.

It could be an ASD, it could be OCD (thats what comes to my mind), it could be neither. The only way to know is to get a complete evaluation.

Kids with ASDs get internally distracted. The loop going on in their heads distracts them and makes it difficult to concentrate on what is going on outside of them. Also, a very high number of kids with Aspergers also have ADHD.
