Jamestown Multiage Classrooms-pros and Cons

We are moving to the Jamestown school district. My son will be entering first grade. We heard that the school has traditional and multi age classrooms for first grade. I would love to hear more about the multi age approach and the pros and cons? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My son was in a multi-age classroom for grades 1 and 2 - at a different school. The first year was tough because he was the youngest in the class and thus less mature than some of the older kids. I also think multi-age classrooms work best for kids who can work well without a lot of hand holding from the teacher. My son's second year was much better in part because he knew what to expect and the teacher and 1/2 of the kids knew him. All in all, we are happy with how it worked out.
