silly questions about wedge heels

Anonymous
So I've never worn them. Never even tried them on. And I only shop online, so trying them on in a store isn't going to happen anytime soon.

I would normally just skip this whole trend, but will be attending an outdoor wedding this summer. Regular heels won't work in the grass/corn fields(?!), and flats don't look great with most of my dresses. Thus I'm pondering wedges.

Do they flex enough to walk normally? Or does that vary with the quality? I'm worried both about clomping around in them like a clown and messing up my feet (the podiatrist recommended flexible shoes for my foot problems).

Are you more likely to turn your ankle (a la Danskos)?

If you have thin legs, are some types of wedges better than others?

I'm considering:

Thanks!

I am not totally on bored with wedges but there are times when they can be cute and practical. From your list I would not pick the cole hans. They are too low. The toms aren't bad but too casual for a wedding IMO. I just bought a pair of Franco Sarto wedges that I liked. I prefer wedges that have a leather wedge as i think they are more dressy and strongly dislike when the " braided rope" covers the entire side/ wedge. Jmo

My Tahari wedges that I love in theory do not flex as much as my other pumps. I don't wear them as much as I'd like to because of it. Just saying....

Out of those, I'd pick one of the pairs with the lower wedges.

Those all seem too casual for a wedding. I would look for one where the wedge is covered in the same leather as the shoe, instead of cork or rope.

I love wedges as they are much easier for me to walk in than heels other than "sensible heels". The Franco Sarto Olympia ones with the bow are really cute - I might get a pair of those. Most of my wedges are dressier, full leather on the heels, although I do have some espadrille ones for casual wear.

Somehow I'm having a hard time equating cornfield???!!! with dressy, but whatever. I like th ones with the bow but might go with a lower wedge/less platform as cornfields are bumpy and so is most grass

OP, I agree that the ones you posted seem like they might be too casual for a wedding, though maybe it's a very casual wedding. More leather on the shoe will look dressier. Of course I have no idea what your dress looks like, but these are some wedges I think are dressier:

As far as walking in wedges, I don't think it's much harder than walking in regular heels, though a very high wedge may make for a worse ankle-turning.

I dislike all the ones pp posted.

I like the bow ones or the cole Hahn ones OP.

OP here. Thanks for the thoughts.

I also think that covered heels are dressier, but they tend to be easier to mess up (tear the leather) when walking in rough conditions. The corollary to leather covered heels on the sidewalks of Georgetown and Capitol Hill (thrashed by getting stuck between bricks, cracks in the sidewalk and grates). Wood, cork or rope covered should (in theory) be more durable.

Also, this wedding is a bit on the casual side of preppy. The men in the wedding party will be wearing seersucker suits and Chuck Taylors. Did I mention that it is on a farm in the midwest? And custom bottled/labeled beer for the reception. Should be very fun, just not in my usual wardrobe go-tos.

I think OP's original choices are perfectly suited to an outdoor cornfield wedding. Leather heels seem more office-y than outdoor wedding-y. Personally, I liked #2, 3, and 6. Have fun!

Now that you have described the wedding a little bit more, OP, I think your choices are probably pretty good (I'm the PP who posted "dressier" wedges). The wedding sounds fun.

OP, I just bought the Franco Sarto Kashmir sandals in black canvas and they are very cute. I love that they come in different colors and think the green ones you posted would be perfect for the wedding you describe. Have fun!
