If you continued nursing your baby past one year, how and when did you decide to introduce cows milk? My 13 month old still nurses 4 times during the day and 2 times at night, so the ped said no need to introduce cows milk for now, but I'm just wondering, when do we start introducing? Thanks!

I think we started offering it periodically around 14 months.
My ped had us start giving 10-12 oz cow's milk daily, even though we were nursing. I was ok with weaning, so I didn't balk at the suggestion. Now son still nurses 3-4 times daily, plus has about 12 oz milk daily. He's almost 16 months.
Oops, pp here...we introduced it after his 12 month appt.
At 12 months with both kids, we introduced cows milk as a drink (had already been eating yogurt and cheese for a while). I stopped pumping at work, so cows milk went to daycare. Kids continued to nurse morning and evening.

Introduced it at 12 months. Or attempted to - neither of my kids have taken readily to cows milk from the get go. #1 preferred Soy milk and then eventually acquired a taste for cow milk, while #2 (almost 2) has never really warmed up to cow's milk unless it's sweetened.
This is what I did too, except I was working part time, so I also did a late afternoon nursing. |
Never introduced cows milk, DD gets her calcium and healthy fats from other sources (FWIW out ped is perfectly find with this and she's currently measuring 55th% for weight and 75th for height - DH and I are tall).
Introduced it at a year, when I stopped pumping, but he really didn't take to it for a few months more. Once we sorted out the delivery system (turned out it was the sippy, not the milk, that wasn't to his taste), he fairly quickly soon after cut out a night nursing session.
We introduced it at around one year. It took a while for ds to want it, so I was glad that I knew that he was getting what he needed through nursing, and cow molk was just another food that he could eat or not. I can't remember when he started liking it, but cetainly by 18 months.
My 2 year old is still nursing in the evenings and mornings. I have never given him cow's milk. At daycare he drinks water and eats cheese and yogurt. When I stopped pumping at 15 months, he drank almond milk at daycare - after about 3 months, he wasn't interested in that anymore, and as I said only drinks water. I don't believe cow's milk is good for humans.
I'm still nursing at 14 mo. Tried introducing cow's milk at 11 mo's, when I stopped pumping, but DS still largely rejects it. Every now and then he will take a sip or two, but he is not a fan. We are going to try soy and almond milk, I think, to see if he takes to either better.
we started at 11 mo b/c pumping output wasn't enough. Nursed to 18 mo.
I would just treat it like any other food you are introducing.
