foot swelling

Anonymous
Hi,

I am currently 31 weeks pregnant and have noticed only very minimal changes in my feet - my gym shoes feel slightly tighter, but just barely. I have been working out regularly throughout my pregnancy and this pair of gym shoes is past the point where I would normally replace them. I'm sure this sounds like a trivial issue, but I am debating whether to replace them now (as I have plantar fascitis and need to make sure my feet stay supported), or to wait until after the baby is born.

My question is: if I haven't seen much change in my feet by now, am I likely have much more swelling and/or change in foot size later on? Does this typically occur only very late in pregnancy, or am I just less likely to have this issue? I don't seem to have any other swelling (I can still wear my rings). Any thoughts? TIA!

My swelling began to get worse as the pregnancy progressed. I'm currently at 33 weeks and am noticing a little swelling...but not as much as I had with my first. However, I'm not assuming that I'm not going to swell up huge again.

My swelling got to the point where I couldn't wear my normal shoes - I ended up buying a cheap pair from Target.

Everyone is different though...maybe you won't have the problems I did.

My feet were only slightly swollen around 31 weeks and now, at 39 weeks, they are VERY swollen. I can still fit into my running shoes, but the laces have to be very loose.

I'm two weeks behind you at 29 weeks, and I'm really glad that I typically buy my running shoes 1/2 to 1 size larger than my regular size. My feet have been really swollen for a few weeks now!

Since your shoes are already "kicked" and past the point where you'd normally replace them, I'd just go ahead and buy new ones in a larger size or you risk doing damage to your feet by wearing shoes with worn-out cushioning and arch support. Even after baby, you might enjoy having a little extra room in your shoes. (and can wear thicker socks or insoles to help w/ any gaps.)

Good luck!
