Anonymous
Is there any sort of report on the new charter schools or do we need to wait until the end of the school year?

MV will not have any data until the end of the 2014-2015 academic year or else the school expands faster than the one year added each school year in the charter proposal. Right now, there is only PS thru K, next year they will add 1st grade. The performance reports are based on the DC CAS which is administered beginning in 3rd grade.

IT I believe has a 3rd grade and should have data by the end of this school year. Not sure when this data is made public though.

Both schools should publish demographic data by next year.

I think they're taking the CAS this week? But I don't think they publish scores until summer or even fall. Can't quite remember from last year.

There are performance reports for schools that do not take CAS - for example AppleTree and Bridges both have reports.

I think MV and IT will have self study reports next year. Right now no data! Make your decision the old fashioned way!

DCPS testing starts in 2nd grade because they want to evaluate 3rd grade teachers on change in scores from 2nd to 3rd.

Charter schools are not required by NCLB to adminster the DC-Cas in 2nd grade. I am not aware of any charter that evaluates teachers based on test score growth (50% of DCPS evaluation is on test scores -- did you read the Washington Post article about the teacher fired from 5th grade becasue her students had 4th grade scores inflated from an erasure gate school?)

My 2nd grader in a charter school is not taking the DC-Cas this week. I suspect that few if any charters are administering the test to 2nd graders.

IT is administering the DC CAS to current 2nd and 3rd graders, but it's informational purposes and prepping the 2nd graders. I think it's a great idea.

I don't think it would matter. The generally accepted assessment is three years worth of data. Not that it would stop most people, but it's really not a good analysis.
