Admissions & Financial Aid Survey

Anonymous
Did anyone else receive surveys from schools their DC looked at or applied to this year? I found the question why your DC did not choose to enroll at said school a bit strange. Because said school did not offer enrollment to DC. Thanks for reminding me.

which school was that?

I remember receiving similar surveys from a couple different schools when we applied. I actually think it's a good thing the schools are/were seeking input from all families who applied, whether or not the children were admitted. It suggests the admissions team is really trying to make their process more user-friendly, and not just seeking positive comments from admitted families.

I was brutally honest in my comments.

I guess I just wish they worded the question better. There was one asking why you chose not to apply. The next should be if your child was offered enrollment why you chose not to enroll. Not a blanket question that if you applied why didn't you enroll. There is a disconnect there, it's assuming all who applied were offered enrollment. I'm not saying you should limit your pool of people you survey, just be careful how you word those final questions.

I got one from GDS today.

These surveys are a good idea and probably quite helpful to the school. But it should be fairly easy to avoid asking rejected families why they "chose" not to enroll. Send one survey to rejected families, a different survey to accepted families who did not enroll, and a third survey to enrolling families.

You should include this comment in the feedback you give them!

We got them this week from Beauvoir and Maret - one we got into the other we WL. Wasn't offended by the language and am actually pretty glad to have a chance to provide anonymous feedback.

Perhaps take a breath and reflect on the fact that it was a general survey, snowflake, and not a hand written letter to you in particular. It is commonly understood that surveys ask BROAD questions, then put the responses into groupings.

Well they seem to cherry pick who they send to. We withdrew our application and we did not get a survey. Were I running the survey, families that withdrew their app would be among the first I would solicit feedback from.

We received the surveys from Beauvoir and GDS (both accepted DC to pre-K) and from Maret (we requested information for K but did not apply because of age cutoff).

21:03 That is interesting because one question had to do with why you did not apply. One would assume not completing the process is equivalent, and yes if I were GDS I would want your feedback.

20:59 Not the OP but the snowflake comment seems a bit strong. Yes it is a general survey but they could have really had three final questions instead of two questions. The survey to me seemed like it had not received much review before going live. Or at least wasn't put past someone outside admissions, to get the view from another perspective.

We received one survey, from the school we decided to go with.

Nothing from the other 3 schools.
