| A friend of mine just sent me a job posting that I am well suited for.. problem is, the deadline was last week. Should I apply anyway or is that in poor taste? |
| Might as well! How quickly can you put together your resume and cover letter? I would send it tonight with a note. |
| Sorry--a note indicating you were just alerted to the job. |
| You have nothing to lose. |

I wouldn't say it is in "poor taste" but it is highly likely that you are just wasting your time. Unless it is some niche position, the recruiter got many multiple applications for the job. S/he's not going to waste time with someone who is late. If the position has not yet been filled, it will be reposted. Apply then.

There should be a contact number/name/email address in the job description. Contact that person, explain that you just heard about the position and ask if they would still accept an application. Then put your cover letter and resume together and wait for the response. If you get a positive response, immediately mail back your cover letter and resume.
I personally would not just respond anyways. For some HR departments and recruiters, they'll mark you down as someone who does not read and/or follow instructions well. |
| If its a federal job you can forget it. |
| Depends on how strong a candidate you are (assuming it's not a federal job). As a recruiter I'd overlook missing a deadline if you were a compelling candidate. |
If the candidate is really good, the recruiter won't pass it up. All they care about is closing, and good candidates help them do that. They don't care about deadlines. |
Not necessarily. |
| Worse that could happen is they say no! Best case you get a new gig. |

This. You can't win if you don't play. |
