Hi,
I'm posting here in hopes of catching those who no longer look at the TTC board . . . . My OB wants me to go for a consult with an RE, as we have been TTC #2 for five months and in addition to some mild male factor issues my Day 2 numbers aren't great (I just turned 39). Given how much of a role stress plays in TCC, I'm hesitant to go into a situation where we're told that we have no hope because of my age. So before I pick an RE, I wanted to see if anyone had experiences being told that right off the bat that they were "too old" and should just go to donor eggs. Thanks! |
My husband and I didn't decide we were ready for children until I was age 40. Because I was hearing discouraging things from friends and my acupuncturist, I decided to go to a fertility clinic right away (we had only been trying for one month). The RE I saw wanted to run a series of tests on me first. Some of test in themselves can help you get preganant (for instance the one where check to see if your tubes or clear or the Clomid challenge test.) Depending on the results of those tests, the next step would have been fertility drugs. IVF would have been the last thing they considered do it was not even discussed.
I was extremely lucky and ended up getting pregnant the second month before I had any of the testing. But I would recommended going to see the RE and finding out what they suggest. It seems to take about a month to get your insurance company to give the okay before any of the testing can begin. You may be a little hasty in assuming that you will need IVF. Good luck! |
I asked on your previous post, but what was your FSH measurement? My further feedback will depend in part on what this was. |
I don't know what acupuncturist you went to but try Dr. Arthur Fann in Vienna Virginia--he is wonderful and very positive. I would also read the book "Inconceivable"--I thought it was great and read before I got myself psyched up to have number 2. Good luck--oh I am pregnant and 40 |
Thanks for the feedback.
Does the book cover hormonal tests and what the results mean, etc.? I'd like to get some good information on that. Thanks, the OP |
I was told at age 41 that I was "too old" and was told to go directly to donor eggs or adoption. This was by a Dr. DiMattina at Dominion Fertility who I would encourage you to avoid!! I decided to get a second opinion before despairing and I'm so glad I did. I went to Shady Grove, got pregnant easily (with their help but using my own eggs), had a beautiful daughter and am now pregnant at 43 with my second. I joined a fertility forum online which gave me tons of info and moral support. Best of luck to you!! |
Dr. Fady Sharara in Reston Virginia is a fantastic fertility doctor as well and may have good advice. I got preg with him IVF style but was 35. Not sure if age played a role, however. |
