How does the waiting list work?

Anonymous
My DD is on the waiting list for LAMB. If she is number 7 on the list does that mean that 6 spots would have to open up before she would be considered for the next available spot? Or does it mean that every time a spot becomes available a number is randomly picked from the waiting list? We are new to this so please excuse my ignorance.

you had it right with the first option. if you're # 7, if 6 kids on the wait list turn down a potential opening, you'd be next.....if a spot opens.

if you really are #7, (for age 3), you just may get in. Childern in the teens on the wait list (age 3) got in last year.....

PP here. correction to my last posting, they wouldn't have to turn it down....they could take it yes, then you would be after the 6 before you

Thanks for your reply. BTW, we are on the list for the 3yr olds so it's nice to know that we may have a good chance of getting in this year.

Single digit at a charter school, even a popular one like LAMB, sounds like good news OP. Charter list shift around until October. That sounds crazy, but because there are no deposit fees involved, many families find their options change rapidly as slots open. Some students may not even show up on the first day. So basically it's musical chairs. It's OK to check in with the school if you are concerned. They want slots to settle down just as much as parents!

Up side of public versus private of course is that the system is transparent.

Hope it works out!
