Returning to work / what to do with kids on school holidays?

Anonymous
Forgive the ignorance of this question.

After having been out of the workforce for years, I plan to return part-time starting in September. I'll be able to pick the kids up after school but will have to be at work 5 days a week. What do people do for all the school holidays?

Is it possible to hire a babysitter in advance for every holiday? How in the world would I find such a person?

The company that provides after care at our elem school also provides coverage on many school holidays.

Call white house nannies and sign up for their temp service.

Not sure where you live, but I've seen "camps" advertised in the Fairfax County Parks & Recreation guide for teacher workdays and holidays. For example, they have an Animal Vest class on November 4, and Egyptian Dig Class on October 13. None of the classes looked like they were for kindergartners however, youngest age offered was 6.

I have seen this, too, through the YMCA in Arlington. Other YMCAs probably do the same thing.

Maryland parks often have camps during spring break, etc. There's also before and aftercare available.

Arlington county runs camps, too. Sign up early - they sell out fast.
