Bought pecan crusted tilapia from WF that the guy said may have been packaged yesterday. Upon putting it in the oven, it is has a very fishy smell. Dies this mean it is bad? Couldn't tell the color or texture, since it was crusted with nuts.
I have it cooking now and figured it would taste bad if it wasn't fresh....what should I do? Thanks... |
| No fish should smell really fishy. |
| Did it smell fishy when you unwrapped it or after it started cooking? |
| Tilapia is THE WORST. It's full of PCB's etc. Throw it out and buy wild cod or wild salmon. Farm raised fish is really toxic. And yes, yours sounds like it's spoiled. Ammonia-y fish-y smell is bad. |
| Is it a bottom feeder? |
Yes--and often they are raised in freshwater tanks were thousands of them feed on each other's feces. Do not buy or order this garbage fish in restaurants. |
| When in doubt...throw out! Not worth the risk and worry! |
| I buy Talapia at Blacksalt and I've never had smelly fish. Always super fresh and clean smelling. I'd take it back. |
