Age cut-offs

I have a child with a September birthday. Can I avoid the public school date cut-off issue by sending her to private school? Or do private schools also follow the same August 31st cut-off? (assuming of course that child is ready developmentally to enter school....)

Most private schools around here seem to use 8/31 as the cut off. FCPS is 9/30 fwiw.

What is FCPS?

Some privates use 6/1 as the cutoff

We are in Montgomery County - I only found one school that advertised it on their website and it was 9/30. More research to do I guess....

Langley's official cutoff is 9/30.

OK, before someone corrects me it's 9/1 for 3 yo and 9/30 for JK and K which makes no sense. I didn't read all the way through. Sorry...

The schools have cut-offs but just like publics they do not have to stick to them.

I believe French International School and Deutsche Schule have calendar year cut offs. You may try them until 2nd grade and then transfer to public/private...

Is your DC enrolling in preschool?

Langley does what they (or probably the parents) think is best for the individual kid. So some kids with August-September birthdays are put in K on time and others with June-August birthdays are held back.
