| I am planning to go to a National Symphony Orchestra concert at Wolf Trap's Filene Center this summer. Anyone have any experience with the lawn seats there? They are much cheaper than the other seats, and I like the idea of having a picnic while listening to great classical music, but I'm a little concerned about visibility and comfort. The alternative is to pay more for traditional seats, which would be a very different experience. |
| It depends on when you get there as to how close you can sit behind the pavilion seats. And the peoe in front of you, if they're tall it's harder to see. The lawn is nice as long as you don't mind rolling the dice on the weather |
| We buy seats inside, but picnic on the lawn with friends before the show. Win win. |

Lawn seats are fun, but there is certainly a bit of a feeling of watching people watch the concert as you look in from the outside... Less of an issue for orchestra performance than plays (unless you are really picky). The lawn does slant downward, so that helps visibility.
As far as comfort goes, are you generally comfortable sitting on the grass for a long time? You can bring chairs if you sit at the very back of the lawn, I believe, but then you are further away. One extra consideration: one year I went, there were a lot of bees around the lawn enjoying the picnics. One note about Wolftrap: they do charge full price for infants, just in case you're bringing one and didn't realize that. |
OP here. Great Idea!! Thanks. |
