Help! What are you doing for afterschool care if you work?

Hi I need some suggestions. My 5 year old will be in kindergarten in 3 weeks (I have an 8 year old also) and I still haven't figured out what I am doing for afterschool care (I know I am way behind schedule). There is a waiting list for SACC at our school and the nanny I did have doesn't want to work after 2:30 PM anymore because of her own kids needing more homework help, etc.

What do you do with your kids for afterschool care? Has anyone had any success finding someone willing to work just providing afterschool care? Do the colleges have any kind of services linking parents that need child care with students? We live in Vienna. Appreciate your suggestions.

You might want to try sitter city site to see if there are any available in your area- I know some GMU students post there. If you belong to a pool or want to post something in the library/ community center yu mightfind another mom/dad who is looking to make extra money. If you know of arents that live where your bus stop would be, ask them if there;s another parent or teen that does after school care. There's a few in my neightborhood (FFX city near GMU) but you have to sort of know where to look. If all else fails, ask on the morning of the first day of school at the bus stop.

Hello! Last year we used the Sports club. Our 5-year old boy needed to do sports . And we had to resolve a problem of provision for him with care until we would arrive home (about 2-3 hours after the kindergarden).
We placed a sort of announcement at the entrance of the house we lived (thinking of a neighbour). One neighbour girl -student wanted to earn some extra money, so she would take our son to Karate and bring him in 3 hours after the exersice. Everybody stayed happy this way

Am I with you on this Vienna Mom. We did our daughter's afterschool program last year and will not be doing it again this year. I was very displeased with the afterschool program. I have been trying to find an afterschool nanny since June and have come up with zilch. I don't know what I am going to do. I have engaged a nanny search service to help.
