My DS is AAP eligible but we did not use in elementary school. He is headed to an AAP middle school. I am wondering about the process for placement in math class. We received a note that he just missed the cut off for algebra screening. Wondering what that will mean (Math 7 honors?) and whether it is something we should pursue further with her school. Sounded like they just use one test to determine screening eligibility.
Math placement in 7th grade is based on the 91 or better score on the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test AND a Passed Advanced on the Math SOL. 6th graders (not just 6th graders in AAP) that score both of those are eligible for Algebra in 7th grade. Otherwise they take Math 7 honors.

OP, you may find the presentation on the new elementary math sequence helpful. It specifically talks about placement in middle school towards the end of the presentation. It's on the bottom of this page:

really glad our aap daughter took honors 7 math is year. its been challenging but very good for preparing her for alegebra and geometry. first semester focused on algebra and second semester is now focused on geometry. she will take the 8th grade sol in may. and while she has been able to pull straight As in the class ( kids who came from compacted math), it hasnt been easy.
