My kid puked up on my dry-clean-only king comforter. Lucky me.
I need to have it cleaned...I'm in NoVA (Fairfax County). Anyone have a cleaner that you used that wasn't a rip-off? Last time I had to clean it, it was nearly $70. Thanks!!! |
| You can wash down comforters. Just use a jumbo machine at a laundromat and dry with tennis balls to help fluff it up. |

The Zips Drycleaners does comforters for something like $20. I have used the one in Alexandria several times for my down comforter and no problems.
They have stores in Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas etc. Go here: http://www.321zips.com/ |
| $70 is about typical at a dry cleaner. |
I am PP and just looked - comforters cleaning is on sale for $14.99! |
I tried zips a few times and while everything was nicely pressed, didn't seem to have been cleaned all that efficiently. |
| Crest Cleaners will do this for $40-$45. They also stain and smell treat well. I've tried to wash down before like another PP suggested, but couldn't get the smell or the stain out of the comforter. |

I agree that you can often machine wash a down comforter. Just make sure to dry it really well with some dryer balls, otherwise it can be stinky.
Go to a laundromat and use the huge washers there. I might get flamed for this additional comment, but you might want to consider that some dry cleaning chemicals are extremely toxic. Just something to think about since it's a comforter that you'll be sleeping next to for hours at a time. |
| You may have to spot clean the puke first, but you can absolutely machine wash and dry your down comforter. As pps have already pointed out, you'll need to use dryer balls/tennis balls and make sure that its absolutely dry. I usually dry mine on medium, then turn it inside out and run it for another full cycle. |
