freezer meals - Indian food/soups and stews etc.

I am due in July and want to make and freeze a bunch of Indian meals, soups, stews etc. What sort of foods will work best?

I hope somebody responds to this - my baby is 5 months old and anything time-saving would be appreciated. . .

I made a lentil soup and froze the extra. It tasted great, but the texture was more grainy and almost curdled looking. It would be fine for us, but would not want to serve it for company.

Stews and soups generally freeze well, so you might just want to pick your favorites. I wouldn't freeze anything with seafood. You could always add fish or shrimp after you thaw it.

Or were you looking for specific Indian recipes?

Indian food freeze really well. All Dals, Currys, Rice Dishes and bread freeze well. I freeze pretty much all Indian food. Do you have question about any particular indian dish?

OP here: I was looking specifically for Indian food. Which veggies work well? Not planning to do rice dishes as they are fairly easy to cook. For the dals, do you do the 'tarka' before freezing?

OP, I actually have the same question about veggies, though if I had to take a guess I bet carrots freeze well, and also broccoli and cauliflower.

As for dal, no, don't do tarka before you freeze. I just did this last weekend. I froze plain dal (just made with haldi and salt) and put it in a few ziplock bags. Once it's defrosted and heated in a pot I'll do the tarka and add it in.

I have frozen choley, rajma, and dals. I have also frozen biryanis. I've found that potatos tend to lose their texture once frozen.

Okra freezes well.
Don't freeze potatoes.
I just hired a Pakistani lady to come to my house. She used
My food/spices and cooked me about 1 months worth of food for 150. She cooked dals, chicken curry, lamb curry, kima, marinated fish, rotis and parathas.
I just had baby number 3 and this has
Made life soooo much easier.

OP, don't freeze anything that you added yogurt or cream too. Make the recipe without diary and freeze, marking on the label that you need to add cream when thawed.
