Townhouse Neighbors Smoke

Anonymous
I live in a townhouse and my neighbors smoke. Recently, the smell of their smoking seems quite a bit stronger and is really noticeable in my own home. As the mother of a 15-month old, this doesn't make me happy. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to minimize the odor/eliminate the problem? Appealing to intelligence is not likely to work...first of all, we all know how unhealthy smoking is, so common sense won't work there sice they're busy ruining their lungs. Second, they have kids of their own in their unit, so appealing to the child passive smoke issue/could you please stop route isn't likely to work either.
Plain and simple: I need a way to ensure that the smoke doesn't make it into my own unit. I find myself going out during the day just to get away from the smell!

Do you own your townhome? Address it with the Association. Maybe they can step in for you. This is going to be difficult though, since they probably can't stop them from smoking in their own home.

We use Air Purifiers for the same problem in our apartment. It can be a bit of an expense (we paid about $700 for 3) but it helps a lot with the smell, and makes me feel better about the situation.

You can also have your home inspected to find where the smoke is seeping into your unit. All townhomes should have separate air systems. Once you find out where the smoke is getting in you can then take steps to fix it and clean it up.

Good luck! We have the same issue with ours but since we don't own there's nothing we can do but use a lot of purifiers.
