My child is in 2nd grade in MCPS and I've seen on the school's calendar that the TerraNova test is scheduled for the week of April 16. Over how many days is it administered? Is it the entire week? Or more like 2-3 days?
We haven't received any communication from the school about the test. |
We got a little paragraph in our monthly newsletter. It looked like it will be all week and it was emphasized that kids should not miss school that week. Now watch that be the week my son gets strep or something.

| I thought they were not doing this anymore? |
I think this is the last year. http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/bulletin/article.aspx?id=219795 Having said that, my daughter tested for three days. |

OP here. Thanks to all.
Is the test a full day event, or a half day? Just curious. I don't know many 3rd grade moms to ask at our own school. With spring break starting tomorrow, I don't expect much notice from the school if the test really begins on April 16. I'm not freaking out about the test itself, but my husband wants to take our son to a "once in a lifetime" event on April 19, which is in the same week as testing week. I'm just trying to figure out if his attendance is even realistic. |
| what is the purpose of the terranova? It does not count towards a child's grades. Is it used to dexide a child's instructional program at all - getting in to advanced math or access to any magnets? |
| it prepares the schools for which students will likely need the most assistance for the MSAs which begin the following year, in grade 3 |
