Freaking out here. I had right breast pain about a year ago. Went in to the doctor couldn't find anything, did my annual mammogram and nothing showed. The pain subsided but would sometimes flare up. I had my annual mammo two weeks ago and they recommended a repeat mammo and ultrasound. I did those last week. Definitely something there -- mass in a duct and now I have to have a biopsy this week. I am freaking the fuck out. The doctor said it could be that milk settled there and just solidified. I of course have gone onto the internet which I promised myself I wouldn't do. If it isn't cancer then what could it be? I see the ledge fast approaching....
No family history of breast cancer and I am 40. My youngest is 4 so I haven't breastfed in years. Besides the mild pain last year I didn't notice anything but once they pointed out the lump I can feel it. |

Bump --- or should I say "lump."
Clearly I am losing it. |

So sorry you're going through this, OP.
The best advice I can give you, as someone who has frequent screenings and a couple of biopsies behind her because everyone is freaked out about my family history, is to cooperate with the aggressive testing for now and do your very best to put the anxiety aside for the moment. There are A LOT of false alarms that lead to biopsies. Nobody can really say how likely it is that this is one of them, but as long as you go ahead with the diagnostic process, you're doing your job for the moment. |

By the way, I'm not holding back on you wrt. thoughts about your symptoms. I know I always try to read between the lines on reports and try to guess whether medical people think "this is it" but just aren't saying yet-- but I really don't know what to make of your symptoms.
I can tell you that over the years I have exhibited a range of weird breast phenomena myself that needed to be checked out. |
| could be an intraductal papilloma |
| My Mom had some sort of hardened lump in one of her milk ducts that appeared as a mass. Turned out it was either the same thing or something similar (solidified milk) that your doctor suggested. Best of luck to you. |

Good luck, OP, my husband and his family have a history of serious health issues so I know how stressful hearing news - and waiting for tests and results - can be. As other posters have mentioned, there are many things that this bump/lump/mass could be, and you just have to wait as patiently as possible for the doctors to confirm what it is. My mother had something similar a while back and it turned out to be calcium buildup - it wasn't causing her any discomfort so she didn't do any thing to remove/treat it. My mother in law also found a mass that turned out to be a form of cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ -- meaning that a cancer developed and grew Into a massbut essentially stopped growing on its own and was confined to the milk duct. She chose to have the growth removed with a lumpectomy and did not have any chemo, radiation, or other treatment. It's been 5 years now and she is still fine.
I will be thinking of you, OP, and hope that you get good news soon. Keep us posted... |

I had a similar situation recently. During the "wait" (after two mammos) until I had the biopsy and then the wait for the results, I was a MESS. Finally, my gyno prescribed me anxiety meds just to get me through the two weeks after searching the internet daily. Turns out it was absolutely nothing. One thing I did learn is that there is nothing you can do while waiting for the result. Take deep breaths and know you'll get through it!
Hang in there! |

Thinking of you OP and hoping you get the news you want. I had a coworker who had a benign mass in the ducts and she needed surgery and hasn't had issues since. Her mother had the same issue and surgery. The only issue post resection the coworker had was she could not breastfeed on that side.
My mother has calcification that are watched and I know how nerve wracking it can be. I myself have some other medical issues and am at the beginning of the arduous process of finding out why these levels were abnormal. I figure all I can control is doing every wholistic thing recommended for cancer prevention and treatment"eat lots of vegetables, exercise, laugh as much as possible, enjoy life, blah blah. |
I recently had a ductogram, they found a 3mm mass. My mom is a breast cancer survior. I go to the surgeon Nov. 7hh. I am freaking out. Dr will not tell what she thiks it is. HELP!!!

3mm is tiny. My breast cancer was 3 centimeters. If its "something" they caught it awfully early. I hope its nothing. |
