Mother and Child Shot at P and 10th NW

Anonymous
From the neighbors post that is on here and Twitter it seems like the husband being the big tough guy was the problem. The scooter guy cursed the wife back. Time to let it go and shake your head. The need to say something about your wife getting sworn at is the problem here in my opinion. If you take on scooter guy, he's going to take you on. He might use more than words.

Do you hear about people getting into arguments and getting shot All the Time? I do. Pay attention to the news.

You can act anyway you want. Regulate your neighborhood. Tell people what to do. But remember this tragic event when you do it.

If you stay home and hide under the bed, then you’ll really be able to stay out of trouble. Why do you leave your house when you know there are crazy people out in the world? Not very street smart of you.

Because I know there are crazy people in the world, I think carefully before confronting someone who has shown me by their actions that they have reckless disregard for people - such as riding their scooter through children playing. And if I do so, and the persons reponse is inline with their other behavior, I definitely shut up. My husband defending me is not going to be helpful. What did the guy expect? The motorist saying sorry I offended your wife???? No one should be shot and certainly not the child but this need to engage may bring unintended consequences as it did in this case. Unfortunately.

+100. Some of the people posting her are either disengenous or really sheltered.

This is how I feel about all the BLM stuff. The people being arrested by cops know that cops have guns and can be dangerous. What do they expect when they got shot?

"This is a horrible story and one which should teach everyone to be very careful."

It is a horrible story, but instead of teaching people to be "very careful," it should instead serve as evidence for moving to a safer place where your chances of running into people like Bedley are fewer and far between.

Not the same at all. Police officers are paid government employees whose job it is to protect the public. They should not be routinely murdering citizens while making arrests or otherwise engaging with the public.

When the response to jerks endangering children by riding an electric scooter is to say, "Go inside and hide" then you are abandoning the streets to the miscreants. That's how neighborhoods stay unsafe.

+1. Well said.

This.

And to any mother on this thread that hasn't told a grown man being rude to take care around her small children, I call bullshit. We should not live our lives in fear of a crazy person with a gun. I will still tell a grown man who rides his e-scooter too close to my toddler to SLOW DOWN and I will not slink away into my house when my family is treated poorly.

+1. There are some bad parents who let other people abuse and mistreat their children. So I guess it shouldn’t be too surprising.

Let other people? Look, you can’t control other people. You can yell at speeding cars and scooters all day long, no one’s listening to you. All you can do is teach your children to get out of the street when a car is driving past or to step off the sidewalk for a speeding scooter. It would be nice if everyone shared sidewalks and streets is a safe manner, but why put your kid at risk just to prove a point?

And rando psychopaths should be shooting children?? Nope. I don’t think so. You can be right or you can be dead. There’s a list of names that BLM can provide for you of dead people. What did they expect?

OMG. Plenty of people who police have killed are cooperative, unarmed or restrained. Jesus. These are not the same things at all.

I will never engage verbally with a stranger because I am afraid of getting shot. There are too many guns out there and too many crazy people. I live in Alabama, BTW.

I find it awfully hard to believe that none of the "street smart" posters who blame the victims for engaging would never, if their kids were almost hit by a stranger on a scooter, impulsively open their mouths.

You don't know how you'd react in a situation until you're in it.

+1. It makes them feel safe to believe they’re so superior that such a tragedy would never happen to them.

Anonymous wrote:Bedly wanted to buzz the white family on his scooter. He quickly pulled a gun instead of continuing on that same scooter. He shot a woman and a CHILD in their front yard.

When we will address the very real problem of deep hatred by some members of the black community in DC towards whites? It's not born of experience in most cases, it is taught to them by their elders. And all the MYOB by whites is not enough to overcome it.

The hatred is absolutely born out of life experience-he’s 26 years old. I guarantee that the grandmother and aunts who raised him did not teach him to go out and try to kill white women and children.

I don't see anyone feeling superior here. The post article says the wife yelled at Bedney which could be impulsive or just how she is, I don't know her. Bedney stopped and cursed her and then the husband defended her. it went south when the husband defended her. Was that impulsive too or just stupid?

Bedney driving by was unexpected but when he stopped and cursed, it was time to shut your mouth. Not escalate.

Agreed, BUT. Let's remember that this family was in their own neighborhood, in front of their own house. It's not like this happened out on the road somewhere on neutral turf. They were with friends and other family members. If you can't feel safe in front of your own home, where are you safe?

I can tell you right now that if this happened on my DC block, my AA grandma longtime neighbors would have been the first ones to verbally rip this guy a new one.

You prepared to call them stupid, too?

Male vs Male could have been what set Bedney off. Don't know if we will ever know. Obviously a deeply disturbed person because intentionally shooting a child is rare. Too violent for comprehension. Was he on PCP?

This is a gun problem first.

DC is flooded with guns because it is a core mission of the Republican party to flood America with guns, for votes.

If he didn't have a gun, any injuries after any fight would have been less.

If handguns were banned in America, it would be much less likely he had a gun.

There is no better example of why we need to ban handguns - like every other country does in practice including Canada.

Europeans are laughing at us right now for allowing each other so stupidly to get killed by guns.
