Weird neighbor and Halloween

Is this a Southern thing?

Oh my god. I'm a longtime DCUMer, yet somehow I had never read this thread before tonight. Thank you to whoever revived it! It was an instant classic, but what tipped it over the top for me was 1) the person who bragged about scaring kids off while wearing an IT clown costume, resulting in one of them spraining an ankle but - lol, we didn't like him anyway and 2) the honey boo boo tongue twister.

It's more of an insta / blogger mom thing.

I actually agree with OP. Why does the neighbor have to lie and ruin it for the children?

I just want to reiterate (like I do every time this comes up) that it's SO RUDE to give someone a gift with contingencies. Now whoever you booed has to go out and buy gift bags, buy candy and trinkets to put in those gift bags, find and print out a "you've been booed" sheet of paper, and find two random other neighbors to give it to. WTF?? Whose stupid idea was this??? The gift that makes you do a shit ton of stuff (and spend $) that you were not planning to do.

She literally left town to avoid being booed!

Op, when she got back did you chase her around with a boo basket until she relieved and took it?

Halloween horror at its finest!

eh, you can't assume that Op is a SAHM. In fact, this sounds like classic over compensation to me.

Op, do you work?

I don't know why this matters so much, but I am a SAHM.

OK, apparently people don't like this tradition. OK, message received. I thought it was something fun for kids. My kids love it, and I don't know a single kid who wouldn't like a fun little surprise and some treats.

I was wrong to use the word "weird" about my neighbor. I should have found a better way to describe her. I did say stand-offish, I guess that's what I meant. We have kids who like playing together, she's nice, but she's hard to get to know and doesn't seem to get in the spirit of things sometimes. She's the mom at the block party who doesn't talk much. That's what I meant. I shouldn't have said "weird." That was the wrong word.

I didn't know people could be annoyed by something so small and harmless, but I guess I'll stop. I do appreciate some of the feedback, but some of you are downright nasty.

Hugs OP. I totally understand- I would have been upset too. Our kids love this tradition and we make an effort to be first in the neighborhood.

Can you explain the importance of being first?

Boo-ing is over (yes this thread is old) but let's start a new "thing" for the bored moms who need to go to the dollar store.

How about "You've Been Pumpkin Spiced!!!"

You can drop off autumn oven mitts, cinnamon sugar and caramel apples.

/s I just want to see everyone go nuts again

Ring cameras have made being "booed" a thing of the past.
