On-line learning is not the answer.
The curriculum purchased to teach the truly accelerated their Alg 2 in middle school was crappy and served those kids poorly. The on-line language classes are sufficient, but ask the kids who don't take another year how it went, and I can tell you that it only works with either a seriously motivated child or serious parental skills and involvement. I haven't seen examples in my son's education of on-line ed going well. So, I don't care if it can be done because it clearly can't be done by this bunch. |
I think that's a function of online learning generally. It's not that APS is doing a bad job with it; it's that most people learn better in a classroom with actual people in the room, including a live instructor. |
Yeah that makes it worse. |
You can't make APS administration hear anything it doesn't want to hear. |

here's a perfect example of our County Board's priorities:

| The Post has picked it up. I hope this is the beginning of a real conversation. |
By the time the Post picks it up, it's usually near the end of the conversation. |
Superintendent PATRICK Murphy and School board chair NANCY Van Doren would like this conversation to end. They can't juggle this and over capacity |
If there are two people whose wishes in no way coincide with my own, it's those two. |
I posted about it in a prior thread.http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/quote/0/9901885.page I can't stand that woman!! |

It's stunning that they were blind sided by this. How did they not know this is an issue?
If they were truly surprised, we need to take some responsibility for this mess. They clearly haven't been hearing this from citizens. |
What does that even mean? What program would make kids want to go there as opposed to a normal high school? Would the students be considered W-L students for purposes of sports and activities, or part of their base schools like HB? |
| ^^^ I assumed they meant a program that would send kids back to the base school for extra curricular activities. Base schools will have 3000 kids competing for after school stuff. |
Sounds less than optimal.
